Due to the extreme weather, a 250-tonne illegal
advertisement hoarding in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai collapsed, falling on a
petrol pump and killing 14 people. The IMD stated that the wind speed at the
time of the accident was 96 kmph, which is considered to be very dangerous.
Moreover, 74 people were saved from the debris.
The fall happened during a sudden dust storm, with wind
speeds at first recorded at up to 60 kmph, which then increased very quickly.
In line with the IMD's Tuesday statement, the BMC's Automatic Weather Station
confirmed the high wind speeds by observing these conditions.
Other areas in Mumbai also experienced high wind speeds;
Colaba recorded 51 kmph, Santacruz 87 kmph, and gusts up to 75 kmph were noted
at Santacruz airport around 4:30 o'clock on Monday. This dangerous weather
caused a reduction in visibility and a change in Mumbai-bound flights to other
airports due to the pre-monsoon showers.
In the future, the IMD forecasts a rise in maximum
temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over North Konkan in the upcoming days, and
then it will drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius. The people of Mumbai, Thane, and
Palghar will have to deal with the hot and humid weather for a long time.
