Traffic jams in the Breach Candy neighborhood in South Mumbai are now a common phenomenon, with locals facing hardships due to the proximity of the newly built Mumbai Coastal Road interchange. In addition to the undeniable benefits, locals have cause to criticize the program for a planning-stage oversight, particularly the lack of direct interchange access, which causes their daily commutes to be delayed even more.
Increased Traffic Strain
Breach Candy, which is the gateway to the Mumbai Coastal Road, is now recognized as a pain point for commuters switching from this road to other modes. The morning rush hour jams, with residents being forced to find lengthy detours on roads to avoid the interchange, are added to the everyday issues faced by commuters, resulting in the delay of what has to be a short norm.
Calls for Traffic Solutions
The fact that the situation has arisen as the defense of the
area close to the Breach Candy Locality Management Committee has been brought
forth. It has pointed at the wild congestion along Bhulabhai Desai Road. The
expert has indicated that this is the side effect of the area’s thick
concentration of hospitals, schools, and commercial spaces. Only to further
their dilemma, an interchange was already stationed in the middle of the road,
thus leaving it "choc-a-block" with numerous ambulances, both trying
to maneuver their way through the clueless traffic. This neighborhood craves
better solutions in traffic management, and they repeat that you usually have
to drive 20 minutes to cover only 40 feet.
While the efficient operation of traffic on Peddar Road
seems to be the result of ground-level access to Breach Candy, residents
complain that their traffic quality has worsened because of this intersection’s
weathered location. They have given reports on their complaints to authorities
and expect them to be handled.
The congestion along the central zone of Mumbai was resolved
a month ago due to the launch of the Mumbai Coastal Road, which promises to
halve travel time from nine to 40 minutes from the Worli Sea face to Marine
Drive. The local officials will be glad to see that traffic conditions will be
much easier as soon as the road is up and running.
Interchange and Operational Details
The two main interchanges at Breach Candy and Worli have
become the only two underground connections to the coastal links. In
particular, the Breach Candy junction through this route, which mirrors
Macquarie Street, would come out of the twin tunnels at Marine Drive. The point
of time when Coastal Road is operational is from 8 am to 8 pm, and the Worli
entrance gets closed at 5 pm.
